US Consulate Economic Officer Jessica Berlow, Economic Specialist Shahid Abbas and members of Rotary Club of Lahore Garrison visited Kujer village in Sheikhupura to see community service projects by Rotary Clubs. Rotary International District 3272 District Governor Shehzad Ahmed and Assistant Governor M. Iqbal Malik (Bali) organized the visit for the guests. They were given a warm welcome by the villagers who presented garlands and showered rose petals on them. They visited Government Elementary Girls’ School where Rotary has provided basic necessities such as furniture, toilet facilities, electric water cooler, school supplies, uniforms, sweaters and shoes to the students. They interacted with the students, distributed ‘End Polio Now’ pencils among the girls and also informed them about the importance of polio drops. They visited a house where a buffalo was donated to the needy family. More than 130 buffalos, cows and 100 goats have been donated in villages in Sheikhupura and Faisalabad through The Rotary Foundation Matching Grants. The guests were shown working of a fodder cutting machine. They were taken to visit the village computer centre and the community library. Both facilities are being used by the residents of Kujer and surrounding villages. They also saw one of the sewing machines donated to start vocational canters in many villages. They were happy to see the grass-root level involvement of Rotary members in the community service projects. District Interact Representative (DIR) Fatima Shehzad, Assistant Governor Shaheen Ahmed, Secretary Shafqat Ali and many other Rotary members were present during the visit. Representatives of many Rotary Community Corps (RCCs) also participated in the visit.
