It is my proud pleasure to report that Rotary Club Peshawar Executives has just completed a month of its FLOOD RELIEF PROJECT (First Phase) initiated on the 1st August 2010 soon after emergence of the catastrophic floods. Primarily we have been working in remote areas and villages of Districts Nowshehra and Charsadda.
With the help of our friends, club members, fellow Rotarians and Rotaractors we were able to carry out the uninterrupted relief activity for a month now which would be completing its FIRST PHASE on EID. Following is a brief glimpse of what we have been doing.
FOOD
On the 1st of August 2010 we started providing cooked meals with biscuits, juices, dry milk, clean drinking water, soups and symptomatic medications to the effectees. Every day we distributed food for 500 persons at each time. However with the start of Ramazan we converted it to iftari with an addition of iftari related items in the meal while the rest of the supplies remained the same for the same number of persons. Every day iftari for 500 persons were distributed in remote places where no relief activities were officially or generally had been carried out. We opted to go to far flung areas identified a day before the distribution to distribute the cooked food.
It is worth noting that the project has not missed a single day and still running as a routine. All the distributions are managed and executed by the members themselves with the help of Rotaractors and friends for management. In the consequences we have provided food to almost 19,500 persons.
HEALTH
As a part of our project we also initiated a unique preventive vaccination project initiating mobile field camps for on-spot blood testing and vaccination for typhoid and hepatitis. Lately we also started vaccination for Malaria. That is besides the field mobile and stationed medical camps providing check-ups and medicines for skin, eye, asthma, cholera, fever, infections and allergies among others. we have so far vaccinated 2600 patients for Typhoid who were tested negative, 1800 for Hepatitis and 850 persons for Malaria. For those who have been tested positive we also made arrangement for their appropriate treatment.
EDUCATION
We have also joined hands with Rotary Club of Peshawar Newcity and Peshawar South to start 17 Camp based Recovery schools to divert the attention of children from the devastation and miseries they were experiencing. It is a unique project towards the personal rehabilitation of the children who have seen their houses, villages getting ruined by the unprecedented floods.
All this was not possible without the help, contributions and participation by our club members, friends, fellow Rotarians and Rotaractors.
