District Governor’s Message

Dear Community Builders and Charter members of District 3272,

Congratulations on being the Charter members of our newly formed District 3272. This is a unique opportunity and honor that that does not happen very often. It also brings additional responsibility on our shoulders. Whatever we do will set the tone for the coming years. I consider myself very fortunate that our District has such a talented and committed group of Rotarians who are ready to set new standards. I am confident that with your full support and active participation, and after a successful and productive year, we will hand over a very strong and vibrant district to DGE Pervez Ahsan Khan.

As mentioned during training seminars for our leaders for 2010-11, we will have a strong focus on training and development. We have encouraged all clubs to consider adding portfolio of “Club Trainer”. The District will provide training and Rotary Information to all clubs so that they understand the programs of Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation, and actively participate in these programs.

One unique feature of our year is that District Membership and TRF Contribution goals were set by participants at our district training seminars. I am quite confident that we will achieve our goals of increasing membership by 15% and making a contribution of US$ 300,000 to TRF. Participants also gave their evaluation feedback informing about their appreciation for the district events. Everyone was excited to be a part of the Charter Team for District 3272. There was consensus that we will all work together for the betterment of Rotary in our District.

In 2010-11, our District will have a strong emphasis on polio awareness/eradication and on literacy projects. Pakistan and Afghanistan are two of the four polio endemic countries and we all have to work extremely hard to make our District Polio Free. I feel illiteracy is the root cause of many social evils and we can better address such issues with a wide spread education. We will also like our Rotarians to focus our energies and resources on water management, health and hunger, and other community service initiatives. We will also support our youth by promoting Rotaract, Interact and EarlyAct Clubs, and by organizing RYLAs and Youth Exchanges.

I have received excellent support from all Rotary Clubs that hosted various District events and from Rotarians all over the District who actively participated in these events. We hope to continue getting such support in the future, as well.

At the end, Maimoona and I thank you all for your continued support and look forward to an exciting and successful 2010-11 together. Let us all pledge to work together in making Rotary BIGGER, BETTER and BOLDER in our District and in helping each other in “BUILDING COMMUNITIES – BRIDGING CONTINENTS.”

Regards,

Shehzad Ahmed
